Browse and download video/music from YouTube

Tubulator is a YouTube browser and video download tool. In addition to offer downloads of YouTube video and audio/music, Tubulator lets you browse YouTube in a way similar to the YouTube website. Search for keywords, and Tubulator gives you the search results. Browse related videos and user channel uploads/favorites - all available via a user interface not much different from your normal web browser.
Search, browse,bookmark and download away!

Main features:

  • Download videos and music by entering the YouTube video URL directly
  • Search YouTube videos by keyword, and download your findings
  • Browse by user channels, favorites and related videos just as you would do on YouTube
  • One-click download and save in convenient media formats
  • Tabbed browsing
  • Bookmarks
  • Browsing history

Also, you can view the screencast on YouTube, showing most of Tubulator's features.

Tubulator is currently in Beta stage, and will be free until it reaches version 1.0. From then on, it will be shareware.

Version 0.92

And finally, a Windows version is now available as well.

Serious issue resolved – version 0.91.2 ready

I applied a fix to a serious bug introduced in version 0.91. It was not possible to get video results when no browsing history was present – and of course this affected ALL new users!

It took me a while to track this one down, because I did of course have a browsing history…

Curious issues – investigating

It seems like some users are experiencing issues with searching – the application simply does not do anything after an URL or search terms has been entered in the text field.

I’m currently investigating this, and I’m having trouble reproducing the issue on my own systems. As I’m deeply dependent on error reports to fix this, PLEASE use the Feedback menu in Tubulator to report the issue.

Small update – v. 0.91.1

I can’t believe I did not notice this before, but the video rating star graphics was not shown in the downloadable version of Tubulator, only in the development version. This has now been fixed.
Alas – the stars has arrived!

Version 0.91 ready for download

A couple of issues were fixed in this version:

  • Added support for OS X versions lower than 10.6. Tubulator now runs on OS X versions down to at least 10.4.
  • Added support for Java 1.5. Java 1.5 is currently the lowest Java version supported.
  • 32 bit processor support added (not just 64 bit)
  • Fixed download of multiple versions of same video
  • Downloaded files are no longer overwritten if same file name
  • Video view counts now showing correctly in video panes
  • Misc. user interface fixes

System requirements

It seems like version 0.9 is NOT able to run on 32 bit Intel Macs. Furthermore, it cannot be run on Macs with Java version less than 1.6. I will upload an updated version in one of the following days to cater for this.

It seems like the future requirements will be at least OS X 10.5 with Java 1.5 running on a 32 bit Intel machine. That’s for the Mac version, of course.

Tubulator for Mac is ready

Version 0.9 Beta for Mac is now available for download – this is the first public version, which will expire January 27th 2011. After this date, users will have to download the latest (free) update.

Tubulator will be free to use until version 1.0. From then on it will become shareware with a trial period.

Enjoy!

Almost ready with a beta version for Mac

Finally!

The Mac beta version is soon to come – hopefully within a month or so. If anybody out there would be interested in becoming a beta tester on the Mac, please send a note on contact@tubulatorapp.com. Credits will of course be given.

A windows version is planned as soon as the Mac version is proved stable. After that, probably a Linux version.

Oh yeah – perhaps a small presentation is in order. My name is Jan, and I’m the developer of Tubulator App. I started development around june 2010, and have been working hard on getting this project into reality. It started out as a simple terminal application, and has grown big and beautiful since.

A sample screen shot, here searching for Aphex Twin videos and downloading 3 results as MP3 audio:

What makes Tubulator interesting compared to many other “YouTube downloaders” is that it shows related videos and let you browse uploads and favorites of users. This gives a somewhat similar experience of browsing the YouTube site itself – except that you can add videos to a download queue, and enjoy the content (as video or audio) offline, on your phone, MP3 player etc.

I’m using the application a lot myself, so I bet there’s others that might enjoy it as well.
